Current or future marine infrastructure can be re-designed to be multi-functional, that can include enhancing native biodiversity, reducing invasive species and providing services such as water filtration. This research tests ways to incorporate microhabitats and habitat-forming species into marine infrastructure.
This project investigates the effectiveness of seeding pontoons, pilings and breakwaters with native blue mussels to reduce invasion by non-native species and enhance water quality.
